After asking Mr.Wilson how is business going, he looks around the garage in a very agitated way. There he greets Mr.Wilson, an old man who seems to be his friend. Once they get of the train, Tom leads Nick into a store inside a garage. Even though Nick knows he will now meet Tom’s girl, he describes himself as not feeling comfortable with this situation. In chapter 2, Nick and Tom are in a train going to The Valley Of Ashes, once they reach a certain stop, Tom orders Nick to get off the train with him. He is afraid of Nick’s reaction, therefore he tells Nick not to believe in anything that he heard. By saying this, Tom is showing the readers that he knows that Miss Baker is aware that he has another girl. At the end of the dinner, Tom asks Nick what did he hear from Miss Baker and then finalizes by saying that Nick shouldn’t believe in everything he hears. First, she lives in New York and second she is courageous enough to call Tom’s house, something an affair shouldn’t do. This indicates that Daisy is aware of the possibility of Tom having an affair, yet from this we learn two things about Myrtle. 18) Daisy, Tom’s wife stands up to go talk to him and soon they have a fight. In Chapter 1, during a dinner where Nick, Tom, Daisy and Miss Baker are present, the telephone rings for Tom, and while he is absent from the table, it is announced that Tom has “some woman in New York.” (Chapter 1 Pg.
